About Harrow and Its Housing Market
Harrow is a town in North West London, situated about 10 miles from the City Centre. It first appears in written records in the 8th century as “Gumeninga hergae” and is thought to refer to a pagan temple. The latter probably stood on the site of today’s church on the Harrow hill.
The rise of the modern Harrow began in the 19th century after the arrival of the railway which was followed by the arrival of new residents and businesses. Originally a part of the Middlesex county, in 1965 the town was included in Greater London.
Despite the fact that Harrow went through a major transformation over the past two centuries, it remains best known for the internationally acclaimed Harrow School which was attended by a number of notable people including Prime Ministers and influential statesmen, both British and foreign. Harrow is also home to the campus of the University of Westminster.
Great schools, excellent public transport links, relatively low crime rates and affordable housing make Harrow more and more popular place to live. In comparison to the London average, house prices in Harrow are significantly lower. But thus may change very soon considering that the prices are up 14% from previous year. Terraced properties sell at an average price of £370,000, while semi-detached properties go for about £450,000.
